I must admit to becoming ambivalent as to this subject. While I personally sought to accelerate my educational experience purposely due to faulty premises established with no knowledge, I can appreciate, as the parents responsible for education, that I should encourage my children, if capable of achieving this feat, as others in the family have done by graduating in 3 1/2 or earlier. In this unprecedented economic times, with a week foreseeable future, is it not responsible parenting to advise their children of the consequences of a costly college experience.in fact, the New York Times has recently raised the level of discussion as to the worthiness of a college education these days in this piece: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/16/weekinreview/16steinberg.html?src=me&ref=homepage. In reality, just as we now know that not everyone should own the American dream of having a home and a car, the more realistic view is to acknowledge that not graduating high school seniors are going to benefit from a college degree or to obtain a degree from a college that will put you into substantial debt that you are unable to pay back with any degree of certainty.
